Expert Advice - Choose the Perfect Tile

Join our very own Jim Aaron, VP of Merchandising for Carpet One Floor & Home, for some information on the three basic types of tile flooring: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.

Where Can Tile Be Installed?

Tile has always been a great choice for kitchens and bathrooms because of its durability and resistance to moisture and heat. Tile can be installed in more than just your kitchen or bathroom. You can even have it installed in your basement. Other places tile can be installed include laundry rooms and even entryways. More durable tiles like stone and porcelain can be installed outside around your home as a patio or walkway.

We also have tiles that can be installed on walls, in showers, and outside as patios and walkways. Backsplash tile allows you to affordably update your space. You can even customize your bathroom by installing a tiled shower, which adds style and even value to your space.

Types of Tile

Our tile selection features porcelain, ceramic and stone options for you to choose.

Porcelain and ceramic tiles are the most popular residential options. All porcelain is ceramic but not all ceramic is porcelain. Porcelain is denser and resistant to moisture and heat because it is baked at a higher temperature than ceramic. They tend to be heavier and can withstand foot traffic and are resistant to moisture, scratching, and wear. Ceramic tiles are light-weight and easy on your budget, and are available in an array of vibrant and neutral colors. We also offer a selection of stone tiles, which are quarried from different locations, so no two tiles will look the same. That means you can have a durable and unique looking floor installed in your home. They may be higher priced, but will last the life of your home.
